Who
We Are
Pathfinder Village is a home where people who
have Down syndrome and other disabilities discover their own value and
talents, and share these gifts with others. It is a friendly, beautiful
community where residents become involved and find opportunities. The
Village opened in 1980 with seven homes and a school. Since then, the Village
has added more homes and programs. Residents are valued for their
abilities and contributions. They are encouraged to choose friends and develop
goals.
Pathfinder Village is a private, non-profit residential community that
accepts residents ages five years and older. Admission is granted without
regard to race, religion, or national origin. The Village is licensed by the
State Office of People With Developmental Disabilities and the State Education
Department.
Our Programs: Through the years, Pathfinder has shown that people
with disabilities respond well to activity and involvement. The Village
provides high quality services in health, safety, and residential living:
Residential: The comfortable, well-kept homes add much to Village
life. Households of five to ten people share experiences and responsibilities,
and create a family-like atmosphere.
Health: A complete array of services are
provided. All residents are individually monitored and contribute to their
health through diet, and exercise. Bassett Healthcare is just minutes away for
regular medical care.
Educational:
The Village School provides children the skills they need to grow into
independent adults. The year-round program is based on New York's Learning
Standards, and educators focus on students' individual needs.
Vocational: Adult residents attend vocational/educational programs
each weekday in association with the Arc-Otsego.
Recreational: The full schedule of activities allows residents
to experience the arts, trips, and sports events. Everyone stays mentally
sharp, physically active, and socially engaged through these programs.
