Who We Are
Pathfinder Village is unlike any other place on earth. It is a home where people who have Down syndrome discover their own value and talents, and share these gifts with others. It is a friendly, beautiful community where residents become involved and find opportunities. Pathfinder Village opened in 1980 with seven homes and a School. Since then, the Village has added more homes and programs, all with the goal of providing fulfillment for those who have Down syndrome.
The People Pathfinder Village is a private, non-profit residential community that accepts residents who have a primary diagnosis of Down syndrome, ages five years and older. Admission is granted without regard to race, religion, color or national origin. The Village is licensed by the NYS Office of Mental Retardation and State Education Department. The Programs
Through the years, Pathfinder Village has shown that people with Down syndrome respond well to activity and involvement. The Village provides high quality services in health, safety, and residential living that lead to fulfillment in other programs:
Residential: The comfortable, well-kept homes add much to Village life. Households of five to ten people share experiences and responsibilities, and create a family-like atmosphere. Health: A complete array of services are provided. All residents contribute to their own health through hygiene, diet, and exercise. Bassett Healthcare is just minutes away for regular medical care. Educational: The Village School provides children the skills they need to grow into independent adults. The year-round program is based on New York's Learning Standards, and state-approved educators direct students in positive ways. Vocational: Adult residents attend vocational/educational programs in local communities each weekday. These programs are developed in concert with Arc Otsego. Recreational: The full schedule of activities allows residents to experience the arts, trips, and sports events. Everyone stays mentally sharp, physically active, and socially engaged through these programs. Outreach: The Village's Kennedy-Willis Center on Down Syndrome provides education and counseling to families needing information. The Center also hosts college interns, and supports research by accredited institutions that builds on our knowledge of Down syndrome. The Pride The Promise
