Our Goodwill Ambassadors

The Bell Choir

The Pathfinder Village Handbell Choir was founded in 1982 by Ray Paradis, the director of music ministries of the First United Methodist Church, Oneonta, and today its members serve as the village's goodwill ambassadors locally and around the country.

There are currently three bell choirs that practice regularly at Pathfinder Village. The performance choir has given concerts throughout the eastern seaboard, and has appeared at the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers convention in Nashville, and the Festival of Trees in Baltimore, a gala that benefits the Kennedy Krieger Institute. The bell choir is directed by Paula Schaeffer, the Village's director of music and recreation programs, and gives over 25 concerts each year.

The choir performs using a three-octave set of Schumerlich bells, a gift from local Rotary District 7170. The hand-turned bells were refurbished in 1997 through a grant from the American Guild of English Handbell Ringers. The Handbell program provides village residents with opportunities for musical expression and public interaction, and encourages members to develop music and performance skills.
