Tour Pathfinder Village!

Pathfinder Village, founded in 1980, is just minutes from Cooperstown, New York. Our village is modeled after Early American communities, with its family homes and buildings situated around two greens.  This arrangement provides security, as well as freedom to visit friends, take walks, and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

We start our tour in the residential square.  Eight of the village's ten homes are located here, looking onto a spacious village green.  Here, residents play games, visit one another, take leisurely walks, and enjoy their time outdoors.  All of the homes are named after local bodies of water -- Susquehanna, Hudson, Otsego, and others.

At the south end of the square sits the red brick Village School, which buzzes with activity, as students gain knowledge and skills.  The attached Sports and Recreation Center is always busy with sports, drama practices, dances and other events. The Computer Lab is also located here, and offers students and adults assistive technology, interactive media, and e-mail to family and friends.

Adjacent to the school sits the Village Pavilion, the site of summertime picnics, the annual ice cream social, concerts and other entertainments.

Kennedy•Willis Center on Down Syndrome, which offers help for those seeking education and direct counseling, and resources for healthcare professionals and families on Down syndrome and related developmental disabilities.

Administrative offices are found in the adjacent Hood House, an 1800 Greek Revival structure that was moved on the site and renovated in the 1990s.

The restored 1841 All-Faiths Chapel is the site of weekly non-denominational services, seasonal celebrations, and musical events.  Immediately behind the Chapel is the Program Office, which houses offices for staff who oversee the daily activities our residents.

Close by is the white clapboard Meeting House, a venue for community special events.  The village's central kitchen and development offices are also found here.

The Village Commons is a multi-use building where all residents enjoy regular art classes, green house activities, and school students take part in pre-vocational training. The Commons also houses staff offices, and is home of the Pathfinder Village Bakery, a popular cafe that features fresh baked goods and lunch specials every week day.

Next to the Commons is the Village Inn, which offers quiet comfort to travelers in its four tastefully appointed rooms. Tourists come from all over the world and contribute to the pulse of life at the village.
