Hale
Pathfinder Village and the Kennedy-Willis Center on Down Syndrome will present a conference on Research Based Teaching Strategies for Students with Down Syndrome. Author Hale and Drs. Feely and Westgate-Pesola will present the latest on research based instruction methods, as well as stories from personal experience about novel ways in which to reach out to students who have Down syndrome. Ms. Hale's has presented at many conferences, including those of the National Association for Down Syndrome and National Down Syndrome Society. She will present simple, practical and effective tools that attendees may put into practice during their teaching. Dr. Feeley is an asssistant professor at the School of Education at CW Post College, and has presented at several national conferences. Most recently, she presented on "Imbedded Instruction for Down Syndrome Students" at the National Down Syndrome Congress Conference in Boston. Dr. Westgate-Pesola is the director of the Kennedy-Willis Center and is also an adjunct professor of Special Education at the State University of New York, Cortland. She was most recently published on the website of "Teaching Exceptional Children Plus"; her article "Poetry Emotion: Effective Literacy Practices for Individuals with Intellectual Disabilities" has received favorable reviews and presents insightful ways to develop literacy among students who have disabilities. |

Advanced Level American Sign Language Classes

Beverly Campbell
Registration Limited to 30; Ms. Campbell has taught sign language skills to many, and has used her own hearing impairment as the basis for her work in faith-based organizations. Students in her classes will be required to buy a text book ($30-$40), and there is a $15 non-refundable registration fee made payable to the Kennedy-Willis Center on Down Syndrome.
