Hands-on Education
Pathfinder's Village's Outreach Mission
The first part of the center's mission, hands-on education, was driven by requests to train college students and others, provide up-to-date information on all aspects of Down syndrome, and provide professionals experience in working with people who have Down syndrome. Areas of service include: Conferences: Our conferences educate parents, professionals and students about various aspects of Down syndrome, and feature known experts, convey current information, and allow participants to "network" with others who are working towards similar goals. Internships: Through the years, the Center on Down Syndrome has assisted high school students, college and graduate-level students, and others from as far other nations gain experience and pursue careers in human services. Friday, April 15, 2011 @ 6 p.m. KWC FILM SERIES BEGINS: The Center will host a special screening of of “People Like Me,” a new documentary film about the inclusionary theatre program at Syracuse University. The Syracuse-based Young Actors Workshop teaches movement, voice and acting skills to student actors with special needs; they are coached by drama students from the University's College of Visual and Performing Arts. The documentary was created by the Newhouse School of Public Communications, and features music by Sujeet Desai, an accomplished musician with Down syndrome and former member of the Young Actors Workshop.
