Pathfinder Village Foundation
How you can help Pathfinder Village
Pathfinder Village is an independent, non-profit (501c3) residential community that relies on the support of caring individuals, civic groups, businesses, and philanthropic foundations to carry out its meaningful work for those who have Down syndrome. Pathfinder Village Foundation was incorporated in 1983 and is the fund-raising arm of Pathfinder Village. The Foundation is overseen by a 10 member Board of Trustees; day-to-day operations of the Foundation are fulfilled by the Pathfinder Village Development and Public Affairs Office.

| The
Pathfinder Village Foundation, the We have many avenues through which people and organizations may become involved in supporting the village, including
direct giving
to our various funds, and taking part in our ever-popular benefit
Pro-Am golf tournament. Some of these activities are overseen by the Pathfinder Village Foundation, an independent corporation that was established to raise funds for the village, and to help its residents by promoting the village among various constituencies. |

The Chief among its duties is
organizing
The Otesaga Hotel Seniors Open and Pro-Am Golf Tournament, which benefits Pathfinder Village and the National Baseball Hall of Fame Endowment Fund.
The Foundation now also supports
the
Chobani Tennis Classic,
which benefits the Foundation's
Scholarship Endowment.
The Foundation, in addition to its fund raising duties, is also responsible for presenting Pathfinder Village to an international audience. Through the Development Office, the Foundation produces many of the public relations materials for the Village. This includes press releases, quarterly newsletters, annual reports and special mailings, the Holiday appeal, among other mailed items.

Gifts of Securities
In most cases, an outright gift of appreciated securities entitles the donor to an income tax charitable deduction for the fair market value of the securities and the avoidance of the capital gains tax.
Giving securities has three benefits:
-
You pay no capital
gains tax on appreciated securities you give directly
to charity (securities must be sold in our account
for this to apply, see the transfer instructions
below). If you want to use depreciated securities
to make a gift, it is best for tax reasons to sell
them in your account, and then contribute the cash
proceeds from the sale.
-
With a highly appreciated security, the actual dollar cost of your gift may be quite low compared to the value you are now giving.
-
You get a tax deduction for the full fair market value of your gift on the date you transfer it to our account.

Bequests
A gift can be made through a will, testamentary trust or codicil to a will or trust. Bequests may include cash, marketable securities, closely held stock, real estate, or tangible property. To learn more about unrestricted or endowment bequests, please contact VP-Director Joe Mahon (see above). It is advised that donors interested in this option also consult a qualified financial advisor.
Life Income Gifts
If you want to make a gift to Pathfinder Village, but need income for yourself or your family, consider a life income gift. Deferred gifts allow you to earn income and assist Pathfinder Village, while also receiving a charitable deduction.
Charitable Gift Annuity By making a Charitable Gift Annuity to Pathfinder Village Foundation, you receive a fixed annual income for life. The rate you receive is based on your age. Thus, the older you are the higher the rate. The donor receives a charitable deduction for a portion of the value of the gift. Upon the death of the annuitant, the remaining principal becomes part of the Pathfinder Village endowment. The village requires a $10,000 minimum gift to establish a gift annuity.
Charitable Remainder Trusts
A charitable remainder trust can be established with cash, appreciated securities, real estate, or other marketable assets. The donor, or designated beneficiary, receive income for life or a fixed number of years. When the trust terminates, the remainder interest is distributed to Pathfinder Village. A Unitrust pays income based on a fixed percentage of the trust value which is revalued annually. An Annuity Trust pays a fixed dollar amount annually based on the initial value of the trust. Both trusts entitle the donor to a charitable deduction for a portion of the value of the gift.
|
Charitable Lead Trust
A charitable lead trust pays a fixed percentage of the trust assets to Pathfinder Village for a specified term of years allowing the donor to retain ownership of that asset. When the term expires, the principal of the trust is returned to the donor or a designated beneficiary. This kind of gift offers both immediate and future tax benefits and allows the donor to make a significant gift to Pathfinder Village while preserving the assets for one's heirs. |
Real Estate Gifts
You may contribute various types of real property to Pathfinder Village such as a personal or vacation home, a farm, a commercial building, undeveloped property, or a fractional interest in property. In the case of a personal residence, or vacation home, the donor may make a gift of property and reserve the right to occupy it for life. Real estate gifts offer donors a variety of tax benefits. |
Gifts of Tangible Personal Property
If you give a tangible asset, such as art or antiques, to Pathfinder Village for use by Pathfinder Village in its educational program, you will receive a charitable deduction for the full fair market value of the asset. However, if the asset is not used by the school, the charitable deduction is limited to your original cost basis. |
|
Gifts of Life Insurance
You can name Pathfinder Village as a beneficiary, or co-beneficiary, on an existing life insurance policy. In the event of your death, the Village receives the proceeds of the policy as a bequest which also offer additional estate tax benefits.
If you make Pathfinder Village the owner of a policy, you can claim an income tax deduction for the current cash surrender value. |
